DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Our work is rooted in a fascination with materials "not too far derived from nature".  The idea is to re-invent anything from our built environment using salvage man-made and found natural materials.  We explore the beauty in textures and patinas of growth, time, wear and oxidation/decay.

Below, I spoke at a local PK event (20 Slides, 6mins format).  This talk gives some further insight into SC's design philosophy-

Here we are on earth in a body with opposable thumbs, a big head, and 5 senses tuned to manipulate our material surroundings. Patrick Sells took the hint and applied his senses to a life among the materials. Seeing that perfection is impossible and undefined, he seeks the defects in cast-off materials, re-crafts them to share a story, and calls them perfect.
